100 Page Flat Plan

The other sections in my magazine include the beaches and activities for the beaches. Having more then one beach would show the differences of the beaches the opinions people have on each beach and what activities are mostly at certain beaches that may interest them more then others. i made an even number of ads and articles so that everything would be evenly separated and distributed the ads through put the magazine to break things up a little.

Photo Shoot Schedule

For my photos I will be capturing images of people on the beaches people in the water children playing in the sand architecture on the coasts and even just some landscape photos. I'm going to have to plan out a few days to visit all the beaches and be sure to get the images I'm looking for. The weather will probably be a big factor since the weather is getting colder not many people will be at the beaches so that may conflict with the schedule as well as keeping good time management finding parking waiting for certain lighting will be big factors in my photographs.

Interview/ Questions

I will be interviewing locals people who are on the beaches and live in the area and maybe some that are visiting for the holidays and don't live near the beaches and the coast is something new for them. There wont be much scheduling for the interviews because it will be the same as when i go for the photo shoot which will make it a lot easier. I will be asking them if they are locals or just visiting so that I can have multiple perspectives of the beaches in my articles, They will be asked why the chose to go to that specific beach that day; whether its an everyday thing for them or the weather was nice or they were on vacation and the beach was what they came for. I will also ask about what makes the beach important to them so i know why the beaches interest so many people to add some persuasive opinions in the article, and finally what do they like about to beach whether its the activities they do, family fun, nice weather, great views so show more of that through the photos and describe the fun things people enjoy.

Cover Design Template

For my cover design I want the main background photo to be a picture from the beach with a main subject that draws the attention and really catches someones eye. I'm going to have the main title "Coastal Craze" at the very top because its catchy and draws attention, on the left side say what is going to be included in my magazine. For example each beach will have its own article so the list of the beaches I will be seeing will be on the right side. I want the image to have a good contrast with my font and not draw the attention away but keep a settle non distracting view. I chose this font because its bold its neat and intriguing, not distracting or difficult for people to read.

Table of Contents Template

The articles are the main subjects of what my travel issue is about therefore I listed the beach name with the page the article starts on. I also included the pages the activities will be on just so people could get to it faster if they wanted something to do rather then the background on the beaches. As well as including the quote from the author gives it a personal feeling which may make people feel more attracted since its personal and can be relatable. I want to use lots of photos to really grab the readers attention with the breathtaking landscape and hook the people seeking for fun in the sun with the activity pictures and the kids playing. I used a basic font because the contents in just stating what there is in the article the fonts that i want to be more appealing will be in the front cover because most people don't read the contexts unless they are looking for something particular.

Magazine Genre Research- Tampa Bay Times

The front cover is a girl who looks very fashioned. she is the main focal point because of the bright demanding patterns she is wearing with a tower of stairs behind her which is white and grey so it makes her stand out more. Not much word on the front cover. just states the magazine along with the date and the issue which is travel titles "Get Out of Town." There is advertisement on the first two pages on buying houses and decor for your houses. There are mostly ads of clothing and house decor and hotels. Loads of information on every page all the text is the same with a white background and colorful photos of beautiful landscape with great fashion and character tied in. The table of contents begins with a starter pack for what you will need for traveling, then Cumberland Island talks all about what you can do and see with detailed images, They then continue on about the Frank Lloyd Wright Collection, the Telluride Film Festival, and a Villa in Rome. They include information and quotes from an ambassador in Africa. While also listing some activities in Tampa for fun. The magazine is box shaped so the images inside are very large some take up whole pages. They also have a calendar on the last page for the next issues. Tampa Bay Times has 240,024 viewers daily it has won 12 Pulitzer Prizes since 1964, 2 in a single year which was the first time in history.

Magazine Genre Research- SunSet

The cover page has a nice beach view with almost a sunset in the background. The font of text on the cover is different from each other the title is very bold with a gold/ silver color one the right side they have articles that will be in the magazine under bold texts that says, "2018 Travel Awards". The font they used for those is sorta textured almost grainy like sand. On the first and second page they have the table of contents which includes many photos to go along with the articles in the magazine. They talk about travel, gardening, and food and drinks. I noticed by some of the photos they have a bubble though bubble to explain a little with an arrow which I haven't seen in anything else. They have subheadings through to articles and under each one in blue font they describe the style of the subject (Ex: Vintage, Urban, Etc.) Then in the travel part they are listing the places in blue font. The photos they use through the issue are very outdoors, very green and artsy almost. They have nearly 5 million readers, Sunset Magazine gives out awards.

Front title page is a window view of mountains very relaxed feeling again lots of ads on credit cards, cars , and hotels. The same font is used throughout the magazine and all of their magazines they keep the same font for every issue along with the same format of how their information is displayed. The keep the pages very simple with the black text on the white background with the pictures having the most color and brightness. The table of contents is set up the same way as the last so again both issues are very similar. The articles contain info on Nepal, Iceland, Japan, India, etc. and explains the places you can visit and activities you can do on different days while also giving personal experiences which helps people assure a good trip. 4.8 million readers, known for it's thrilling photography.

Magazine Genre Research - Travel+Leisure

The front page is a restaurant and the photo is set up to where the text is on blank spot like the wall and the people and important part is seen and stands out. The font is all the same and very bold. The cover also opens up like a pamphlet with advertisements. The contexts contains lots of restaurants in different places, naming restaurants and having pictures of some of the foods they have. They have different sections for each part of the world (France, Italy, Spain, India, Peru, Morocco, Japan, Singapore, Mexico, etc.) There are ads on hotels, water, medicine, and capital one cards. The contents separates the departments and the features that are in the magazine(ad on every other page). They also include a page for contributors who helped with the information along with a picture and what page there story or restaurant relates with. They also have a letter from the editor. 4.8 million reader, according to its corporate media kit.

Magazine Genre Research- Gulf To Bay

The cover photo is centered on the girl in the middle with the beautiful sunset beach in the background. The girl is twirling lights as an activity on the beach which is very eye grabbing. The title is up in the left corner and is all in the same font with the logo. on the right side they have some sub topics about what will be talked about the font for those is very textured with the main word bigger size then the others. on the bottom right they have the title of this magazine "St. Pete/ Clearwater by Night" under that is says Beach- 50 Eats- 68 Bars- 76 which just list the subjects in the magazine and what pages they start on. The ads are mostly hotels and restaurants which goes along with the magazine. The photos are very focused and colorful and vibrant and help show what the text is talking about. Lots of photos and very little text. the contents are on page four under inside its an interesting layout with the bold page number and then the category of subject of things that will be on tat page till the next. then under that there is a very simple extra contents with specific topics. The pictures have lots of people which shows how attractive the places and activities they talk about. Gulf to Bay just recently started world wide distribution more then 225,000 copies went to 13 different markets in the country. They have received the "Besties Award"

Project Selection - My Decision

I have chosen to do the magazine project because working by myself and being able to have complete control of how I want it to look will make me more confident in the magazine. Also with my certificates in word will make it easier for me because i understand the layout and all of the tools to make my magazine look its best. The magazine was what i picked automatically because they are more expressive in my opinion. You have the words that explains and talks about a subject but then you also have the visuals so if the reading isn't clear enough the images give you a more clear view while also helping you visualize. Unlike the film with more of the motions and camera angle and different shots and maybe a few words here and there, you may not get the message clear and people may be confused with nothing helping them understand more. My project is going to be very colorful and just an upbeat feeling when you see the cover. It will go under travel and will be based on Florida beaches and activities to do. 

Project Selection - Film

Some aspects of film that would interest me would most definitely be Ferris Bueller. Learning about the different techniques they used to pull off certain scenes was fascinating. Also when they show the process of casting the roles and voicing the opinions on the different people would be challenging for me  because I can never make decisions nor can I be 100% honest with people. The newsroom as well was a great visual by showing how they prepared before they went on the air. They were rushing and trying to figure out what would be best to put on the air and it was very intense. The film project would be good because I enjoy putting clips together its like a puzzle to me and the edits and special affects is fun. What would be challenging for me would be managing the time and being sure everything was put together and filmed when its was suppose to. As well as trying to figure out the design and meaning behind the film. Planning is going to be the hardest part for me no matter what.

Project Selection - Magazine

The Newsroom inspired me to do the Magazine because it shows how everyone cares and reacts to what is written. For example the false statements about Will that were posted in the magazine and everyone knew. As well as when we analyzed the magazines, seeing the ways different subjects interested certain people based on the photos and content they included. With the Magazine I will be able to do more and personalize it and be sure it includes all I need which is more of what I wanted. Also I feel more comfortable editing photos and laying them out and fonts and word designs all seem very much easier then making a film. Some things the may be challenging would be planning it all out because I just do what come to mind and change it a lot so making a plan and sticking to it may be challenging. As well as finding a topic there are so many things that interest me that I would want to see posted in a magazine but hard to pick one.
